Oops!
"The switch is a safety thing so if anyone sees something going wrong they have the opportunity to shut down the plant," said Nova spokesman Greg Wilkinson. "But that's not what happened here. It was not a safety issue. It was simply inadvertent." Because of the unexpected shutdown, Nova declared force majeure on shipments of propylene and some other products. Force majeure is a legal term that means a company can't fulfill contracts because of circumstances beyond its control. It will be lifted when the plant returns to normal operating rates and inventory levels. The company said the outage and lost sales will shave profits by about $8 million in the second quarter and $3 million in the third. Can you imagine making a mistake that cost your company $11 million? What do you say to your boss after something like that? “Oops?” “My bad?” “Sorry about that big guy?” I don’t think any apology is going to save this fellow’s job. But when you stop and consider it, we’ve all made a far more expensive mistake than this. When we sin, it is a decision that costs us far more than $11 million. It costs us our eternity. I seriously doubt that our Canadian friend is going to find forgiveness with his company. Corporations generally don’t operate that way. But thankfully, God is not a corporation. When we make the costly decision to sin, when we sacrifice our eternity in his presence by our own stupid choices, He is still able to save the day. He offers grace. But that forgiveness wasn’t free. In fact, it demanded the highest price of all. It demanded the death of the very Son of God. Truly, “God bought you with a high price.” (1 Corinthians 6:20, NLT) Thankful for His Extravagant Grace, Mike

A Canadian worker accidentally tripped a shut-off switch at a major Ontario plastics plant recently. The blunder will cost Nova Chemicals Corp. $11 million in lost profit because it won't be able to fulfill some of its contracts. Production has come to an immediate halt and at least two weeks of repairs will be needed at the facility before production can resume.
