Summertime: the Good, the Bad & the Ugly

There are things I love about summer: extra time with family, cookouts, baseball, fishing, longer daylight, etc.  I also love the extra opportunities for fellowship and spiritual growth that summertime brings.  Our children and students have great opportunities with camp, VBS, and CIY.  Our church picnic is coming soon and it will be great to spend time together as God’s family.  Summertime is great, right?

Well, not always.  There are also things I dislike about summer: the heat, hectic schedules, the heat, yard work, the heat, higher gas prices, and did I mention the heat?  I also dislike summer because of the inconsistency it brings to the life of a church.  It’s inevitable, but I still don’t like it.  I don’t like it when people find their boat more important than worshipping with the family of God.  I don’t like it when people allow their tithe to go on vacation with them because, after all, vacations are expensive.  I don’t like the attitude of shifting from ministry to maintenance that often happens in the church during the summer.

This summer is speeding by.  It’s been a good summer and I can’t wait until it’s over.  How’s that for a paradox?  Let’s strive to make the remainder of this interesting time of year the best that it can be.  After all, God deserves our best…no matter what the calendar says.

LUMINOUS ACTIVITIES & PROGRAMS

NITRO (MONDAY ACTIVITIES) - August, 2006
Monday Nitro has now gone to once a month. Our next meeting will take place August 7th at 11AM.

QUEST (WEDNESDAY NIGHT YOUTH GROUP) - August 9th
Due to CIY, there will be no QUEST on August 2nd.
We will continue our Don't Talk With Your Mouth Full Series with Part IV: Don't talk to Strangers.

CIY MONEY
The final payment of $75.00 per student, for CIY is due July 31st. This amount is conditionary on your student acheiving the 30 hours of service which is also due the same day. In the event that the thirty hours are not met, the remaining balance of $150.00 will be due.

VERTICAL (SMALL GROUP STUDIES)
Our small group ministry for Sr High Students will kick-off this fall. Sign-up to participate now.

FALL YOUTH KICKOFF - September 8th - 9th
Coinciding with the kickoff of our brand new Student Ministries, our annual fall youth kickoff will be combined with a lock-in this year. Come out for a night of progressive dining, cosmic bowling, and other games and fellowship. Cost will be $20.00 per person and will cover all drinks, snacks, and bowling fees.
