Cracking the Da Vinci Code
Make no mistake about it…Dan Brown wrote The Da Vinci Code with an agenda. The Da Vinci Code seeks to undermine long held beliefs about the church, the Bible, and Jesus Christ. And Brown’s agenda has enjoyed success. People are rejecting the Christian faith because of this book. Some who are Christians are seriously doubting their faith because of Brown’s writings.
1. Bury our heads in the sand and pretend that nothing is happening. Disengage from our culture and do our own thing. Wait patiently until this phenomenon goes away. 2. See The Da Vinci Code as an opportunity to communicate the gospel truth. This story has people talking about spiritual things. Because of The Da Vinci Code, people have entered into a spiritual quest. Seeing this, we can arm ourselves with the truth and be prepared to answer when these discussions surface at school/work/etc. I much prefer option #2. This is why we are entering into a two-part sermon series entitled Cracking the Da Vinci Code. We’re going to answer questions like: How did we get our Bible? Did the church leave out some important books in the Bible? Was Jesus really just a human prophet? Did the church conspire to hide the real truth about Jesus? These are questions that people are asking and we need to “be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have,” keeping in mind that our answer must be given “with gentleness and respect.” (1 Peter 3:15) In addition to the two messages on April 30 and May 7, we will also hold a special session during the Sunday School hour on May 7. All our teen and adult classes will meet together in the auditorium for a more in-depth discussion on issues raised in The Da Vinci Code. The session will be led by Brian Morrissey and myself, with a time built-in for Q & A. I’m excited about this opportunity for all of us to better prepare ourselves to engage in this issue. We don’t need to be afraid of The Da Vinci Code or any other cultural issue because the truth of God always wins out in the end. In His Love, Mike
P.S. – If you haven’t read The Da Vinci Code, don’t worry. These truths we’ll talk about transcend this book and we all need to understand them. We all need to be able to communicate the truth to others, whether we’ve read Brown’s book or not. Luminous Student Ministries

Dan Brown’s book, The Da Vinci Code, is an engaging story. It is also about to be released as a motion picture that will, without a doubt, be a blockbuster. But it is so much more than a best-selling book or a hit movie. It is a teaching tool.
We have two options regarding The Da Vinci Code.
"Our quest is to illuminate the truth of Jesus for the world in a manner that inspires everyone to live courageously committed and devoted to His call."
