Trades
Have you ever stopped to consider what we’re talking about when sports teams are discussing trades? We’re talking about trading a person. In essence, that person is treated as a commodity. It’s a business transaction, not much different from how you trade in your car. I wonder how it affects team chemistry knowing that every person is there because of what they can do. Because of what they bring to the table. If you perform well, you can stay. If we can get somebody better, we’re going to try to trade you. This is the way of life in sports, business, etc. But it’s not the way we operate in the church. We’re called to seek the people that nobody else wants. Think of who Jesus hung out with. Prostitutes, con men, nobodys. No one on earth would make a trade for these people. And yet Jesus loved them enough to talk with them, spend time with them, and eventually die for them. And his church exists to reach them with his gospel message. So how would you feel if a prostitute walked in and sat down next to you this Sunday? In His Love, Mike

Are the Reds going to trade Adam Dunn? (I know some of you are not baseball fans, but hang with me. I promise that there’s a point to all this.) I’m very torn on this one. If they actually get some good pitching (not prospects!), I would be in favor of the trade. But I have personally seen Adam Dunn hit some monster homeruns. I would miss that excitement. I guess what it comes down to is this: will it make the team better? If the answer is yes, then trade him. If we’ll get another batch of washed up pitchers, don’t make the trade. (I make it sound awfully easy. I should be the General Manager of a baseball team.)
