Happy Mother’s Day
The first Mother’s Day church service was held on May 10, 1908 in her mother’s hometown of Grafton, West Virginia. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation making Mother’s Day a national observance, “as a public expression of our love and reverence for the mothers of our country.” This Sunday is Mother’s Day. (Husbands and children, consider this your official warning. If you don’t have a gift yet, hop to it!) We will honor our mothers with a special presentation. We will also start a new, two-part sermon series called “Not Just Plumbing: Real Femininity & Masculinity in a Fallen World.” In part one, we’ll talk about what it means to be a real woman of God. Our culture has a lot to say about women, but what does Biblical femininity really look like? (Part two of the series will deal with real masculinity but it will be delayed until June 18, which just happens to be Father’s Day. I am so clever!) I am blessed with godly women in my life. I have a godly mother and mother-in-law. My grandmother is a committed believer. I have a sister and a sister-in-law who both love the Lord. Most of all, I’m blessed to have a Proverbs 31 wife whom I love dearly. These women all have qualities that may not be valued by our world, but are honored by God. Take the opportunity this week to love, encourage, and honor the special women in your life. In His Love, Mike P.S. – Here's a little humor that you moms can relate to.

A day set aside to honor mothers was the suggestion of Anna M. Jarvis of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Anna wanted to honor her mother, as well as all other mothers. Anna’s mom faithfully taught Sunday School for twenty years before she passed away on May 9, 1905.
The response to our series was overwhelmingly positive. It is our hope that you feel a bit more prepared to engage in DVC type discussions at work/school/etc. Check out our website (ameliachurchofchrist.com) for audio of the two sermons and our special session, as well as a hard copy of Mike & Brian’s notes.
