If your kids missed this totally free Sports Camp last year, just ask around. We had an absolute blast. And ACC volunteers are again pouring their hearts into planning another awesome, sweaty, spirited and God-honoring time.
It all takes place over five evenings June 14-18 at Batavia Township Park. Our goal is to make Sports Camp one of the highlights of the summer for hundreds of kindergarten through 5th graders.

This year's theme, "The Great Comeback" will again give kids a chance to learn and play some of their favorite sports while also soaking up plenty of Christ-centered lessons about being good sports.
Speaking of sports, we've got big news! We've added basketball to our list of choices this year:
Soccer
Flag football
Basketball
Cheerleading
Sports of all Sorts
Please keep in mind that your child doesn't need to be a sports superstar or even athletic to enjoy Sports Camp. Our goal is to teach them some basics, hone their skills and allow them to gain some confidence competing with other great kids.
Finally, you need to know that we take safety very seriously. Our sports camp includes a team of qualified men and women who are dedicated solely to security detail.
Space is limited and registration ends at midnight May 31.
So sign up today and get all the details, including directions to the park.

This Sunday, May 2, there will be an informational meeting for anyone interested in volunteering for 2010 Sports Camp.
We have several positions open from Huddle Coach to Assistant Coaches. We need lots and lots of volunteers. Last year, we had close to 200 kids and are expecting even more this year so we need everyone's help!
The meeting will take place immediately following the 11:00 service on Sunday and should only last 20-30 minutes. Please make every effort to attend. See you there!

If you are going through a particularly difficult season in your life, take some time and read about the incredible trials one ACC staff member has endured. It may just change your approach to how you deal with the difficulties in your own life.
Dave Hubert, our Minister of Involvement, has created a website that will allow you to better understand not only how he survived cancer the last two years but also how he came through it thankful to God for having had it.
"I created this website with the hope that something I put in it, will bless your life and help you along in your life's journey," he says. " I pray that it might help someone else to see what I went through and how I coped with my trial in all honesty but also in faith."
By publishing two dozen deeply personal e-mails he wrote to his support network of family and friends during his journey with cancer, Dave reveals both his unique sense of humor and his incredible faith despite dire pain and multiple brushes with death.
Below are a couple of samples from his first letter that begin to reveal why he came to sign his emails as "Dave Hubert, Cancer Conqueror."
Dave describes the incredible events during his near-death experience on the operating table:
"At that time it felt to me like I had the choice to live or die and I wanted to die. I had that peace that passes understanding and either way was ok. In that moment one of the nurses patted my face and looked very empathetically at me and simply said, “Just stay with us.” I recognized her face and tried to tell her that and to ask who she was but the oxygen mask blocked me and I was totally dry in my mouth and throat. I looked for her name on her lab coat but I could not see it. I thought of Belinda and my vow to remain faithful until death. I was still alive so I determined to live if I could. I got better and they took me to ICU … I wanted to thank the nurse who helped me in that desperate moment and I asked everyone who had been in the room who she was. The doctor, chaplain, and nurses all said that nobody was standing where I said she was and nobody knew the person I described. Make of it whatever you want, but I think I know who my guardian angel is now."
Dave prepares for yet another extremely risky surgery:
It feels like God did this just so He could prove to me how much He cares and how much He can and will do for me. I know there are no promises for the outcome but then again, I have a sure promise of the ultimate outcome of it all. And that is the only one that counts.

Want more? Just wait for the Small Group.
While on this journey, Dave gained great strength and guidance from God's Word. There was also a book by Larry Crabb called "Shattered Dreams" that he re-read during this time that helped him greatly. Dave will be facilitating a small group this fall based upon this book. If you wonder where in the world God is when you face major trials and He is seemingly silent and uninvolved, this group will be for you. Stay tuned for fall signups.

Join us for donuts and coffee from 9:30 to 10:30am Sunday, May 2, in the auditorium as we say goodbye to the Presta family.
Melanie Presta has served ACC as its awesome children's minister the last two years. She has taken a full-time ministry near Louisville, and since her last official day with us is May 9, we want to take this time to say thanks.
As a programming note, there will be no Bible classes May 2 as we plan to spend that time loving on Melanie, Paul and their four kids.
On a related note, this past Sunday we learned that ACC is hiring Marie Young as its interim children's minister until that position is permanently filled. Marie is married to Josh Young , ACC's Creative and Communications Minister. Both Josh and Marie also serve on the Worship Team.
Among her duties, Marie will serve as the director of Sports Camp 2010.
