ACC Hires Marie Young as Children's Minister
August 3, 2010

After an impressive three-month trial as interim Children's Minister, Marie Young was announced Sunday as ACC's new Children's Minister.

Marie proved herself fully this summer when she jumped right into Sports Camp and led our many passionate volunteers through an awesome week for nearly 200 kids in the community. Since then, she's kept the momentum each Sunday, and after a month's-long search, it became obvious to ACC's leadership team that she was clearly the person for the job.

Marie is one of our own. She and her husband, Josh, have been part of the ACC family since early in 2006. Josh is also on our staff as our Creative & Communications Minister, and they’re expecting their first little one in January.

But that's not the only way Marie plans to grow ACC's children's ministry. On Sunday she revealed plans to continue to help our youngsters fall in love with their church by serving and giving. So don't be surprised to see your kids helping out with worship or to hear them talk about assisting on the KidZone media team.

More than anything, Marie is passionate about teaching kids to love Jesus.

Special Offering for Parking Lot Project Through August 22
July 29, 2010

We need your help to raise the final dollars for our parking lot project. Over the next four weeks, (Aug. 1, 8, 15 and 22) we're asking members to give above and beyond your normal tithe so we can get moving this year on some badly needed repairs, re-sealing and re-striping of our lot.

Last year we began a special offering to offset the cost — about $10,600. To date we have raised $5,500 and set aside an additional $3,000 toward the project. If giving allows, we will also redo the entry along Ohio 125, expected to cost an additional $3,300.

ACC's second annual Sports Camp was a huge hit with our community, and nothing quite shows that like all the photos of so many happy kids who had an opportunity to learn about Jesus while having a blast playing Flag Football, Cheerleading, Basketball, Sports of All Sorts and Soccer.

Sports Camp is Amelia's alternative to vacation bible school. The week-long free camp gives kindergarten through fifth-grade kids a chance to be the center of attention of dozens of passionate volunteers

Beyond the three sports sessions every night, the children huddle up all across the park twice each night to discover new things about God. For many, the real treat is the opening and closing rally when they get to sing, dance, watch a drama and just hang out with a ton of new friends.

Special thanks to our many volunteers, led by ACC Interim Children's Minister Marie Young ; our special guest, UC Football's John Goebel ; Cahall Bros. for use of their equipment; and a huge thanks to Batavia Township for use of the awesome park.

Sports Camp 2010 Off to a Great Start
June 16, 2010

ACC kicked off its second annual free Sports Camp at the Batavia Township Park Complex in a big way.goebel.jpg

Though hot and humid, the storms held off long enough Monday for nearly 200 area kids to work up a shirt-drenching sweat while having a blast learning and playing Basketball, Flag Football, Soccer, Cheerleading and Sports of All Sorts.

Tuesday night was highlighted by special guest John Goebel, senior running back with the University of Cincinnati football team. No. 22 shared personal stories from his life and how God has impacted his team’s success on the field (two-time Big East champs) and how he has dealt with adversity along the way.

The fun, singing and dancing continues for three hours every night this week through Friday, June 18, as youngsters hone their athletic skills while picking up lots of God-honoring lessons in their huddle groups about being a good sport and “The Great Comeback.”

A huge thanks to Director Marie Young and all our dozens of volunteers including the stage staff, head coaches, assistant coaches, huddle coaches, water runners, snack squad, parking police, nursing team, security detail, cleanup crew as well as the entire set-up and tear-down gang.

All of the hard work and donations are paying off as we serve our community. Please continue to pray for the many children, their families and all the volunteers this week.
