Turn to 1 Samuel 14

I am a result to this message

Background to 1 Samuel 14

Saul sent all the soldiers home except 3000

2000 w/ him, and 1000 w/ Jonathan

Jonathan took a philistine outpost and Israel had become a “stench” to them.

Philistines mustered 30,000 chariots, 6 thousand horsemen, and troops like the sand on seashores.

Israelite soldiers hid in caves and cisterns

Numbers withered to 600 w/ Saul

Only Saul and Jonathan had any weapons (Philistines had removed all the blacksmiths)

Read: 1 Samuel 14: 1-16

Audacity – “The willingness to take bold risks”

Jonathan acted audaciously

He didn’t wait for an opportunity to come to him. He created one.

He didn’t have to; he was the son of a king.

“Perhaps the LORD will act on our behalf…”

God never acted on behalf of a coward.

God won’t step in, until we step out.

Notice I didn’t say “can’t”

We never see God using an unwilling person.

EXAMPLE: Moses – He may have been hesitant, but eventually he stepped out to follow God’s calling.

After reading this it’s apparent that there are a couple things that will easily create audacity:

If you are confident in God’s power it will create audacity in your life.

Jonathan and his Armor Bearer

Joshua & The Sun Stands Still (Josh 10 – Amorite Kings)

Audacious leadership creates committed followers.

Vs. 7 – "Do all that you have in mind," his armor-bearer said. "Go ahead; I am with you heart and soul."

You have audacious leaders at this church.

2 volunteer staff members.

You all have a unique opportunity to step out

What you experience every week is NOT the norm.

Your leaders and your church aren’t perfect (never will be), but you are uniquely positioned to make an impact.

What are the audacious moves that Amelia COC needs to make?

I think you’re in the midst of making them right now. Mike’s vision casting series…

CONNECTING > GROWING > SERVING

There are big changes happening at Amelia already

New Student Minister

Small groups

There might be changes that make you a little uneasy.

There might be changes that you don’t think are doable.

There might be changes that you don’t like

But that’s because we, all too often, only see things from our perspective, not God’s

We think in terms of our ability, not God’s ability.

One simple audacious move can have a much larger effect.

Illustration: Reed’s development

This simple action, set into motion by two men affected the entire battle.

Audacity is a quality that followers of Christ must have. (not optional)

God has already given you the power of the Holy Spirit.

2 Timothy 1: 7 – “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of POWER and love and of self-control.”

Acts 1: 8 – “But you will receive POWER when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

Would this church achieve its mission if it was full of people like you?

Joel Young
