Children's Minister Marie Young Stepping Down
February 2, 2012
On Jan. 29, Mike announced that ACC's Children's Minister Marie Young will be transitioning out of her leadership role of KidZone. Marie will remain in the position through March, then she will transition to our volunteer team. We would like to thank Marie for her dedication to ACC's kids. She is leaving this ministry better than she found it. The leaders are working to fill this role, so please pray that God helps us identify the next leader of our children's ministry.
Sunday's Announcement
We are in a huge season of growth and momentum here at ACC. God is blessing us like crazy. Things are happening really fast around here, which makes it really fun but also really challenging.
Today I’m announcing a new challenge for our church. At the end of March, Marie Young will be stepping down from her staff position as our Children’s Minister.
I know that’s a shocker. It saddens all of us to have to make this announcement, because Marie has been a stellar addition to our staff. God called her for a time to this position for a very specific reason. I can’t begin to describe what she has done for our church and for our kids. God has and will continue to use her to do great things for the Kingdom.
Now, you do need to know this. Josh, Marie and Nora are not leaving ACC. They are still ALL IN with our church. They are still in lockstep with our vision. Josh is not stepping down from his staff position as our Creative & Communications Minister. There is no division between them and any of our leaders. They love our church and they are still an integral part of our church.
The thing is, Marie doesn’t actually want to step down. Josh doesn’t want her to step down, either. But this is a move that they feel God is calling them to make for the long term health of their family. Josh’s full-time job as an engineer has grown significantly in the number of hours, responsibilities, etc. Plus they have a little girl that is growing like crazy. They reached a point where they felt God was leading them to be proactive about changing some things for the good of their family and their ministry together. They just didn’t know what the changes were. So they prayed about it hard for a long time and sought out wise counsel, and this is where God led them. Now they are trying to be faithful to that.
Marie will stay in her current position until the end of March, and after a little down time starting in April, she will come back to our children’s ministry as a passionate, committed volunteer. She loves your kids and she’ll still be a vital part of our ministry. It just won’t be as the staff leader of that ministry.
Our leaders are working to determine what God’s plan is and our course of action. As some of you know, we also have an open position in our student ministry. We’re looking at both of these positions and praying for God to reveal our next step. We don’t see the timing of any of this as a coincidence. We believe God is setting us up for something great.
And here’s the other thing you need to know…we’re not slowing down. We’re not letting up. Our commitment to high quality children’s and student ministry has not changed. And it will not change.
For example, we’re still doing Sports Camp this year. And we’re committed to making it even better than last year. Every position at Sports Camp will be covered and it’s going to be awesome.
We have no doubt that our children’s and student ministries will continue to be nothing short of excellent during this transition.
Pray for us as we work to determine where God is leading us. Pray for God to reveal His next step for us. He is blessing us more now than at any point in my ministry here. And the best is yet to come.
