Have you heard the term RSS before or are just curious what it is all about? We'll explain it here. It's actually a very simple and useful tool. If you're like most people, there are a few sites that you visit regularly to read things or just see what's going on. Sometimes you just want to do a quick check to see if there has been anything new posted. If you're checking very many sites for new info, this can take a while. That's where RSS comes in to save the day! RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication." And that's what it is. When a site is "syndicated," that means that it produces an list of all of the items that have been posted on the site (or in a particular section of the site). For example, our news items on the What's New page are syndicated. That means that there is a list containing each news item that we have posted. This list is called an RSS Feed. "So what? What good does that do me?" Well, if you use an RSS Reader (or newsreader, as it is sometimes called), then you can subscribe to and read those RSS feeds. Even better, when you go to your RSS reader to read your subscriptions, it will remember what you read. The next time you go back to your reader, only the new items show up. That means that you could subscribe to many different RSS feeds, and when you go to your reader, it will show you what new items have been posted on each of those websites. If nothing has changed, then nothing new shows up. Simple as that. "Ok, so how do I get and use one of these RSS readers?" There are many free options out there. Some readers are programs that you install on your computer, and some of them are completely web-based (which means you don't have to install anything, and you can read it from anywhere using your web browser).
If you've never used an RSS reader before, we recommend using Google Reader. It's simple and free. You can sign up for an account (or use your existing Google account if you have one), and when in the reader, click on "Add Subscription." Simply enter www.ameliachurchofchrist.com in the box, and it should automatically subscribe you to ACC News. This process is the same in most RSS readers. NOTE: If you have trouble subscribing using our main address, please use our direct feed address when subscribing. Most readers will figure it out on their own though.
